AFFM Applauds Bipartisan Action on Permitting Reform

Sep 30, 2026

Today, bipartisan leaders of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources and Environment and Public Works committees introduced the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act of 2026, a permitting reform package aimed at streamlining federal environmental review and permitting processes.

Americans for Free Markets (AFFM) Executive Director David Ibsen issued the following statement:

“This bipartisan agreement is welcome progress toward the meaningful permitting reform America urgently needs. Outdated permitting processes drive up costs, delay critical energy and infrastructure projects and hold back American investment and job creation. At a time when families and businesses are facing higher costs and growing energy demands, we cannot afford to let unnecessary delays stand in the way of growth and affordability.

“We applaud lawmakers for working across the aisle to advance this legislation forward and urge Congress to build on this momentum to get permitting reform across the finish line.”

AFFM supports permitting reform that cuts unnecessary red tape, lowers costs and gives American businesses the certainty they need to invest, build and grow. Modernizing the nation’s permitting system will help unlock investment, strengthen American competitiveness and ensure the United States can meet its growing energy and infrastructure needs.
