Promoting Policies that Allow Businesses to Make the Best Decisions for Customers, Shareholders, and Communities
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, a coalition of business and community groups launched a new organization, Americans For Free Markets (AFFM), to protect and preserve America’s financial system by supporting competition, protecting taxpayers, championing capitalism and preventing government overreach.
AFFM and its partners recognize the indispensable role of a strong banking and financial system in supporting a thriving economy, preserving national security, and bolstering American competitiveness globally. AFFM’s members are united in their commitment to maintaining a marketplace free from governmental interference and preventing misguided policies that target businesses out of political expediency, not what’s best for the economy or taxpayers.
“America’s financial system has long been the envy of the world, with institutions of all sizes competing to deliver the products and services clients and communities need to thrive, from supporting small business growth to financing critical infrastructure projects,” AFFM Executive Director John Wittman said. “We look forward to working with local leaders to champion policies that promote economic growth and prosperity for all Americans while opposing measures that would reduce competition and harm consumers and taxpayers.”
Central to its vision, AFFM:
- Advocates for policies that empower businesses to make decisions in the best interests of their customers and shareholders without fear of government micromanagement or retribution.
- Opposes measures that stifle competition, drive up costs and weaponize the government against businesses to score political points, all to the detriment of taxpayers and consumers.
- Seeks to preserve the capitalist economic system upon which the United States was built.
- Believes that businesses should have the freedom to manage their operations in a way that best serves consumers, free from the risk of government meddling or sanctions related to their independent or shareholder-driven business decisions.
