ICYMI: AFFM Advisor & Former Sen. Pat Toomey Joins Fox Business to Discuss Pro-Growth Policies, Housing & Permitting Reform
Aug 5, 2026
In case you missed it, Americans for Free Markets (AFFM) Advisor and former U.S. Senator Pat Toomey joined FOX Business’ Mornings with Maria to discuss pro-growth policies Congress is currently pursuing related to housing and permitting reform.
During the interview, Sen. Toomey called the 21st Century Road to Housing Act a step in the right direction. When asked what Congress can do to make housing more affordable, Sen. Toomey emphasized that the real driver of rising home prices is a lack of supply, exacerbated by years of permitting delays that slow new housing development.
“Delay is enough to kill a project. If someone buys the land and then has to wait years before they can get approval to build houses, the economics fall apart,” said Senator Toomey.
AFFM supports permitting reform efforts that streamline redundant review processes, reduces unnecessary red tape and ensures taxpayer dollars are spent more efficiently. The benefits of these free market policies are already evident in states like Texas, where a competitive tax climate and business-friendly regulatory environment have fueled population growth, corporate relocations and economic investment.
This week, AFFM Executive Director David Ibsen also joined the Cardle & Woolley radio show to discuss the financial boom taking shape, highlighting Exxon’s recent move to Texas.
“It shows the environment that’s been fostered in Texas in terms of lower regulation, encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship, but it also should be a little bit of a warning to people in the Northeast,” said Ibsen. Who wouldn’t want to be close to all those corporate headquarters and all that capital and be associated with the economic boom and financial boom that’s happening in Texas?”
These interviews underscore a simple principle: when policymakers embrace free-market solutions, Americans benefit. Whether through permitting reform that makes it easier to build homes or state policies that foster investment and innovation, reducing unnecessary government barriers leads to lower costs, stronger economic growth and greater opportunity.
