ICYMI: Executive Director David Ibsen Joins “The Mark Davis Show” to Discuss How Texas’ Free Market Principles are Attracting Businesses Away from Blue States

“I think the bigger thing for people in Texas and other red states is not to implement unnecessary new restrictions. It’s just to keep doing what you’re doing.”

In case you missed it, Americans for Free Markets (AFFM) Executive Director David Ibsen recently joined The Mark Davis Show to discuss the ongoing migration of businesses and families from blue states to red states and Texas’ rise as a financial powerhouse.

During the interview, Ibsen discussed how Texas has successfully attracted businesses by maintaining a competitive tax climate, limiting unnecessary regulation and creating an environment where companies can grow and innovate.

“Texas made a deliberate, consistent choice to champion free market principles to lesson regulation and to let businesses prosper.”

The conversation also touched on a Fort Worth Star-Telegram editorial co-authored by Ibsen examining Texas’ continued population and business growth. He argued that, in addition to lower taxes, businesses are increasingly drawn to states that offer a stable and predictable regulatory environment.

“One reason why the companies are moving to Texas isn’t just because of low taxes. It’s because of consistency. Tthey know that this is a place that has a consistent regulatory environment.”

Ibsen also pointed to the state’s growing influence in the financial sector, noting that Texas now boasts one of the nation’s largest financial services workforces and continues to attract major financial institutions and investment activity.

“In September, the Partnership for New York City found that Texas’ financial workforce has grown to more than 519,000, compared to New York’s 507,000. So we are growing at a considerably larger rate than New York’s financial workforce.”

When asked whether the migration trend is likely to continue, Ibsen pointed to challenges facing states such as New York, New Jersey and Delaware, where policymakers and business leaders have increasingly ramped up regulatory policies.

“Not everyone wants massive bureaucracy layer upon layer. Not everyone wants to be told what kind of stove they can install in their house, what kind of car they can drive, what they can buy, what they can’t buy. Not everyone wants to be taxed into oblivion, and so those people vote with their feet.”

The interview concluded with Ibsen emphasizing that as states like New York continue to be unresponsive to people with entrepreneurial spirits, Texas must stay the course. By upholding its free market principles, Texas will continue attracting businesses and families away from blue states for years to come.
